Stone Mason^® Concrete Resurfacer

Surface Preparation

All existing surfaces must be structurally sound, dry and completely clean. Remove all sealers, dirt, oil or any contaminant that may act as a bond-breaker. For best results clean surfaces using mechanical methods such as high-pressure power washing or abrasive blast. Clean out debris from expansion joints and tape or mask off the joints to prevent the material from filling the joint. All cracks should be repaired prior to application of Stone Mason^® Concrete Resurfacer. Patch damaged areas using Stone Mason^® Vinyl Patch. For minor imperfections [1" (2.5 cm) in diameter and up to 1/2" (1.25 cm) deep] use Stone Mason^® Concrete Resurfacer following the patching instruction below. Do not use sweeping compounds or solvents for cleaning. Ensure surface is damp.

Mixing for Patching

To fill small holes, gouges or spalling 1" (2.5 cm) diameter and up to 1/2" (1.25 cm) deep, use a mixing ratio of 4 parts powder to 1 part water by volume. Mix thoroughly and apply to the prepared surface with a flat steel trowel or putty knife. Patched areas should be allowed to set firmly (30-45 minutes at 70°F/21°C) before applying the resurfacing mixture. DO NOT OVERWATER. Additional water will weaken the product and lower its strength.

Mixing for Resurfacing

Mix with water only at a ratio of 1 3/4 quarts (1.75 L) of clean water for each 20 lb. (9 kg.) bag. For less than a full bag, mix approx. 3 1/2 parts powder to 1 part water by volume. Place clean water in the mixing bucket first, then add the powder. Mix vigorously by hand with a margin trowel or with an electric drill and mixing paddle until a lump-free consistency is achieved. DO NOT OVERWATER.

Application

Stone Mason^® Concrete Resurfacer can be applied as thin as 1/16" (0.16 cm) for resurfacing and up to 1/2" (1.25 cm) for patching in small areas. After mixing pour the mixture onto the area and spread evenly with a flat trowel using firm trowel pressure to ensure maximum bond. Maintaining a wet edge when overlapping will help to minimize natural color variations that can occur between areas. Stone Mason^® Concrete Resurfacer can also be applied with a squeegee. For improved traction, you can apply a textured broom finish to the new surface using a clean, damp medium or fine bristle broom before Stone Mason^® Concrete Resurfacer sets too firmly (about 10-15 minutes). To obtain a professional look, the edge of the project should be finished using a 3" paintbrush or edging tool while the surface is still wet. On vertical surfaces such as concrete walls or steps, trowel the material directly onto the prepared area. Smooth the material to the desired finish.

Thick areas will take longer to set than a thin coat and will reduce the overall coverage per bag. The pot life of STONE MASON Concrete Resurfacer is approximately 30 minutes at 70°F (21°C) and will vary with the ambient temperature. In warm weather use cold mixing water to extend the working time. Discard any material that begins to set in the bucket.

Depending on weather conditions, Stone Mason^® Concrete Resurfacer is ready for light foot traffic after just 4 hours, and heavy traffic after 24 hours. To reduce staining and damages Stone Mason^® Concrete Resurfacer should be sealed using STONE MASON Concrete Sealer.

Coverage

20 lb (9kg) bag will cover approximately 20 sq. ft. (1.5 m2) at 1/8" (0.3cm).

Limitations

Do not install below 50°F (10°C) air and substrate temperature. Do not mix this product with additives. Although repairing cracks in the substrate is always recommended prior to installing STONE MASON Concrete Resurfacer, we cannot warrant that cracks will not reappear. DO NOT USE IN SWIMMING POOLS, FOUNTAINS OR AREAS THAT WILL BE PERMANENTLY SUBMERGED. Avoid using this product if rain or freezing temperatures are expected within 24 hours.

Storage

Store in cool dry area. Do not expose bags to the heat of the sun.

Shelf Life

12 months in original unopened bag.

Caution

Corrosive. May cause eye injury. If product gets into eyes, flush repeatedly with water and seek medical attention promptly. Avoid skin contact. If contact occurs, wash exposed skin with water. Protective eyewear should be worn. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with eyes.

First Aid Treatment

Cement when mixed with water results in a solution of calcium hydroxide. If splashed in eyes or on skin, flush thoroughly with water.

Tips

• Do a test patch first to determine suitability of product.
• All control joints, expansion joints, saw cuts should NOT be covered by STONE MASON Concrete Resurfacer.
• In hot windy conditions protect the newly resurfaced area from drying too fast.
